My stomach was removed at the same time as my pancreas in July- so I need to eat every hour to get enough calories in. Is there anybody else in the same boat? I have to eat fat and sugar as they are calorie dense, but they play havoc with my blood sugars. Ideas please!😱

Hi susan.

I replied on your welcome thread. What insulin regime are you on at the moment ?

As northerner suggested on the welcome one, a pump would be most suitable for you.

Welcome to the boards, Pottersusan. Have you had any contact with a dietician? In particular, removal of stomach means that, as well as needing lots of small meals, you need a different way of taking in sufficient vitamin B12, iron or calcium, usually by injections or tablets.

see http://my.clevelandclinic.org/disorders/post_gastrectomy_syndrome/dd_overview.aspx

Yes - the Macmillan dietitian is being really helpful and is coming to my next appointment with diabetic consultant. The dietitian, I think, actually looks at the whole picture which is very important. I'm getting B12 injections, calcium from tablets. I need to find out about iron - it hasn't been mentioned, but I wonder if I may be a bit anaemic too!

That's good news - specialist dieticians are generally very good at seeing the whole picture and don't loose sight of the fact that food is there to be enjoyed! 🙂
