Worries about tests

Hiya, so I’ve been gettjng bloods done at the doctors recently and i was asked to go back because my iron levels were low and i had mentioned to her that i was thirsty all the time no matter how much i drank and i was peeing all the time. She asked me if i was tested for diabetes and i said no i dont think so, fast forward to this morning and I phoned amd explained how this has gotten worse over the weekend. Between friday and Sunday i peed 85 times, my dry mouth is really bad today. So the doctor turned around and said oh try hold in the pee and i dont think you have diabetes but i want to test you for diabetes insipidus, so i handed in a urine sample and i get the results on Thursday

I’m so scared because she didn’t reassure me and I mentioned how I’ve been experiencing weird tingling feelings in my upper right thigh, I constantly suffer from pins and needles

i was just wondering if anyone had any advice because im really scared and not convinced after speaking with the doctors, as i know there’s something not right

At least you will know Thursday obviously if tingle gets really worse request a call back or call 111

Do you know why she thought you didn't have diabetes mellitus? I wonder if perhaps your recent blood tests measured your blood glucose but don't indicate diabetes and those will be more accurate than a urine sample, which will need to be followed with blood test for diagnosis anyway if glucose levels are raised.

Diabetes Insipidus does have the same symptoms of thirst and frequent need to pee, but I think (I don't know that much about it) can be diagnosed with a urine sample more easily, and is done so when urine is held and water intake limited.

I wouldn't hesitate to call your GP back to ask more questions, you are concerned and in discomfort. She can explain to you why she thinks it is diabetes insipidus rather than mellitus as it is unusual to make that judgment without reason due to the former being a rarer condition.
If you don't find this puts your mind at any ease, then you could call 111 for advice.

I add this just as a caution, so please don't be alarmed, but undiagnosed Type 1 diabetes can become serious very quickly. If at any point you experience abdominal pain or vomiting please seek emergency help.
 
she said my blood sugar levels were okay from my blood test but when i had my blood test done, it was early morning so I don’t know if that will affect it in anyway at all

Okay that’s great thank you so much! Its also weird because i always get pins and needles, not sure if its related in anyway but today I’ve had it all over from my hands/ arms feet and even my head but im probably thinking about jt too much
I will definitely phone 111 if I become unwell in anyway

If the possibility is that you have T1 or LADA, then by the time you are experiencing increased thirst your blood glucose levels are generally raised above the ‘renal threshold‘ (about 10mmol/L) by loss of beta cell (insulin production) and where the kidneys are trying to flush out excess blood glucose, hence increased thirst and increased urination.

Generally your beta cells / insulin production would be limited enough that even morning glucose would be likely to be raised i would think.

Yeh, will do thank you! she phoned me back today and said i had an infection so a uti but i will find out on Thursday if i have diabetes insipidus

Aww yeh, I understand what you mean! My doctor phoned me back to say i have an infection so an uti but she sent my urine away to be tested for diabetes insipidus

Infections can be another cause of elevated blood glucose (if the body is struggling to regulate BG)
 
Just thought - with a UTI it's best to slake the thirst with a 'neutral' sort of liquid so plain water, or slightly alkaline Robinson's Barley Water was always recommended years ago.
 
Insipidus has very little to do with the diabetes that we are concerned with on this site (D, Mellitus). So we can be of little help.

As insipifus is rare and as the Dr has done tests it is a good bet that you do not have D. mellitus.

Indipidus is caused by a problem with the pituartory gland in the brain and the hormone that it makes: "antidiuretic hormone" that pevenr the hufbeys producinf too much urine.

It can be treated - for now keep drinking.
 
My doctor phoned and she said that my results are alright but she wants to do more blood tests and another urine sample
 
No Northern man would give money or blood unless he knew the reason why. You should ask what tests and what will they prove. This will tell your Dr. yhat you are interested in your health and smart enough to ask.
 
So i went and got my bloods done and handed in a urine sample. She said that shes testing my kidney functions/ calcium levels/ thyroid and the thickness in my urine and blood and when i asked her what it is she testing me for she just said what shes testing my blood for. So my guess is she’s just doing it to maybe get some answers

I think it can be tricky for Drs trying to track down an illness that could be anything, and I guess sometimes they have to just work through the options starting with the most likely, and then add more and more clues to narrow things down. I’m very glad it’s not my job!
