This sounds like absolute tosh, to be honest. The duodenum is only about a foot long, and the only exciting bit of it is the sphincter of Oddi, from where bile acids and pancreatic enzymes emerge. Hardly any nutritional absorption goes on there, food doesn’t hang around long enough. And as it has to cope with stomach acids at pH 1.2 pouring through it, I don’t think there are any special cells that govern blood sugar levels.

I can’t see 4 million T2 folk lining up for gastroscopy, either.
