DIABETES is on the increase. If not treated, it can lead to blindness and the loss of limbs. In the Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley area there are 11,200 people already affected. Doctors fear a third more have yet to be diagnosed.
GP Dr Balaji Chalapathy, a member of NHS Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley Clinical Commissioning Group, which plans and pays for the bulk of the area's healthcare, said: "Diabetes is one of the biggest challenges facing health services today. It is important anyone who is at risk visits their GP for a glucose blood test because there are not always symptoms."

His warning coincides with World Diabetes Day on Thursday 14 November. A number of events are being held across the area to raise awareness of the condition.
