DUBAI - Applauding the fact that diabetes has been given a voice in the global political arena with the launch of the Global Diabetes Plan, top healthcare leaders have called for more action to end the threat once and for all.
Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and President of the Dubai Health Authority, inaugurated the World Diabetes Congress 2011 on Sunday. On the occasion, healthcare leaders said that no country or region has escaped the impact of the diabetes epidemic.
They said the four-day congress holds much importance since the UAE which, according to the new figures, has the world?s 10th highest prevalence of diabetes at 19.22 per cent.
