Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi all. New to the site, new to the internet, new to type 2. Any help with the latter, diet especially, would be great.Bye for now.

Hi Workhorse, welcome to the forum 🙂 Hopefully you will find the forum a great source of information and support 🙂

Are you in any medication for your diabetes? There are some links to good information in our 'Useful Links' thread, so have a browse in there. Particularly recommended by many of our members is Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker, so it's worth the outlay of a few quid to give you a good idea of what it is all about. As for diet - a diet suitable fr diabetes is the Glycaemic Load diet - The GL Diet for Dummies is a good introduction to the principles. It is a way of selecting food that will release its energy slowly and steadily and hence have less of an impact on your blood sugar levels. The main thing to be careful of is any carbohydrates such as bread, potatoes, rice, pasta etc. These can all be eaten but ideally you should use a blood glucose meter to test your levels before and after eating something to work out what works best for you as an individual.

There is a lot to learn, but take things a step at a time and ask plenty of questions and things will start to fall into place. The good news is that diabetes is a condition that can be managed well with a little effort, and many people find that the changes required to manage it result in them feeling healthier than they have for quite some time 🙂

Please

Hi Michael, welcome to the forum; I think the guys will agree that you don't need to reply individually, unless you want to of course. In respect of Northeners post I have a copy of the book 'Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year' if you want it; its not specifically about diet but does help have a better understanding of the condition.

Just let me know if you want it and I'll let you know how you can pass on your address.

Take care; big hug {{{}}} Amanda xx🙂

Hi Amanda. Thanks for your "post" Sorry it took me so long to reply. As you may realise I don't have a clue what I am doing (e g what do I put where it says Title?) Have just had a very nice e-mail from Alan in admin explaining a few things so I may improve.I would like to get in speak to you again in a little more detail if that is ok with you but i am not yet sure how to go on. Should I give you my e-mail address or do you have it? perhaps you would let me know. I live in Derby, and yes I know you knocked us out of the F A Cup the other week but you'll get hammered in the replay. lol. Many thanks for the big hug. that means a lot.Don't know about you but I get to feel a bit down quite often lately. big hug returned x 10. Best regards Michael.
