Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi there
I'm an insulin dependant type 1 diabetic and was unsure whether I can go back to work as I work in the care sector
I've had conflicted answers so far

I have just been for bloods and review all done by nurse with type1 diabetes. Unless you had a shielding letter their is no need not to go to work.

Think its pretty much up to yourself, I know of many up here in Scotland that have continued to work throughout the whole lockdown xx

I was off until 4 weeks ago. I work in a school and, with the best will in the world, it can be hard to social distance with little ones. For me, i felt the longer i was off the more i worried about going back. Could you have a conversation with your employer? Maybe they can either reassure you about going back or give you a definite answer about whether you can go back or not depending on their safeguarding procedures.

Hi @Tinadeancruz
The advice certainly isn’t that you shouldn’t go to work, but it is important that you keep as safe as possible. Has your employer detailed what kinds of measures they’re putting in place, such as PPE, cleaning, distancing measures where possible?

Hope your employer can put suitable measures in place, but be reassured that the risk to people with T1 of working age is quite low - certainly if you are in your 40s or thereabouts - and even moreso if you are younger than that.
