Morning everyone just want some advice please ,I've been off work for two days after having a hypo and works said there not going to pay me. I think this may be wrong but not sure.

Do you normally get sick pay? If so I don’t see why this should be different.

Although, I have to say, two days off work just for having a hypo? How bad was it then, did you end up in hospital? That would suggest that you need some help getting your diabetes under better control. My daughter has never ever had a whole day off school because of diabetes, yes she’s been late a couple of times when we were having problems with her cannulas, and she’s spent far too much time in the school medical room having hypos, but as soon as her blood sugars are back to normal she goes straight back to class.

Sorry, didn't say I was in hospital and diabetes is not the best at the minute but I'm receiving extra help.

I don't get paid if I have a day off sick with a Dr's note I would get SSP only my company wont pay anything.

No idea what the rules are these days but it always used to be first 3 days off sick no pay, so if that's still the case then work is correct.

Hope you manage to sort your problems out sooner rather than later.
What medication are you on as your profile says you are type2?

Sorry to hear you’ve been having a tough time with your diabetes recently. Glad you are getting support from the hospital.

If you are concerned about the way work are treating you, and think you may be being treated unfairly, perhaps call the Diabetes UK helpline 0345 123 2399 (Mon-Fri 9-6) who will be able to offer you some advice.

Hope you are feeling much better soon. Do you know what caused the hypo?

@Stuart14 sorry to read that you are struggling with diabetes and that your company is not paying for sick leave.
Unfortunately, sick leave rules seem to be specific to contracts. For example, I am only "entitled to" 5 days paid sick leave per year.
But if your company is saying they will not pay you because it is diabetes related, I second @everydayupsanddowns and suggest calling the helpline.

When I worked in retail, that’s how it was, first three days no pay. Not sure these days though.
