Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi Guys,
I’m type 2 And whilst I’m heading towards insulin I’m currently managing with a mix of meds and diet. Problem is I started a new job two weeks ago and received confirmation of my attendance at a glitzy awards ceremony on Saturday evening. It’s a black tie event with champagne reception and three course meal and I have no idea what is on the menu! Any ideas on how to cope? My employers have bought my ticket (which was pretty expensive) my T2 is not common knowledge with my colleagues and I don’t want to be seen as picky and wasteful. Any tips much appreciated

Hello @Walker1178 , welcome to the forum. My advise to you is, enjoy yourself. Just make some wise choices about foods and portion sizes but don’t get too hung up on it as it’s only one occasion.

First of all - relax but watch how much you drink. There might well be wine with the meal as well as the champagne and even spirits afterwards. Beware of those who might try to ply you with drink, it is sometimes not done kindly.
Do not worry about declining foods brought around by servers, or leaving food on your plate if it arrives already partly set out. - just ignore it - don't offer it to another diner.
Pay careful attention to who is getting the awards and for what - a surreptitious note might be in order, so you can chat about it next week.

Hi and welcome to the forum and congratulations on the new job 🙂

You say you are managing on a mix of medication and diet, may I ask what meds you are on for your diabetes?
xx

Completely agree with Lin - it’s only one day, so enjoy yourself and keep yourself safe. As a T1 I’ve had many occasions where my BG has gone through periods of significant disruption through no fault of my own and with no apparent precipitating cause. I’ve just had to accept those and move on. You can try your best to keep BG levels well managed for as much of the time as you can, but perfection isn’t possible in this game and an occasional period of errant BGs is just part of the picture.

Sometimes life gets in the way!

The important thing is not to make a habit of it 🙂
