I started my work yesterday in a small cafe but it went really badly. I did 5 hours from 10 - 3 but didn't get a break. It was also much more difficult, energy wise than I had expected and by the time I finished I was really hungry, exhausted and aching all over. I went home and slept for 4 hours and then had to take pain killers because the pain in my legs was unbearable. I had only tried it for 1 day but have already quit and I feel like a failure.

After work I had to walk home, it took me 3/4 hour to do what would usually take 10 - 15 mins, and I was being over taken by old ladies with shopping trollies and I really noticed people doing things that I can't do. I am apparently less fit than a 70 - 80 year old, unable to carry a bag of shopping, I can't get up once I have bent down to pick something up ... It is horrible how it made me notice all these things that I usually ignore, and I can't believe how bad I have let this get. It has really got me down, but I am determined to make positive changes to my diet and take up some sort of low impact exercise soon. I also need to really push my doctors to get something sorted.

Sorry your day at work didn't go so well................

I hope the docs can assist you somehow...............🙂

Natalie, I'm really sorry to hear that things didn't go well. It can be extremely difficult being on your feet for so long when you are not used to it, so please don't be too hard on yourself - really, I've done that sort of work myself and my legs were killing too! It's good to see your determination to put things right now that the extent of the problems have been made clear to you, so keep that thought and learn from the experience to help yourself get strong again {{{{Natalie}}}}

Don't be too hard on yourself, it is difficult to suddenly be on your feet all day from being able to sit whenever you please. You gace it a try and did your best.

Hopefully the docotor will be able to help you too.

Aaawwww Natalie, I really feel for you. I know what you are going through, Now I have the bleed in my eye and told my boss , because Saturday morning is nonstop cleaning! It's hard going, I know, it really does take it out of you. Am I reading correctly that you have quit the job after 1 day? I don't feel comfortable or confident in my new job and I seem to be making lots of mistakes, but I suppose thats expected, but I don't like the negative way I am feeling, probably the same as you:( A BIG (((((((((((( hug)))))))))))))))))))
to you Natalie.
If you want to talk, whatever it is, please pm me, if it may help. Sheena xxxxxxxx

Hi Sheena, unfortunately you did read correctly, it is because I have been suffering from fatigue for several years and when I went for the interview I explained that I would need breaks, but wasn't given any, I also felt like I was going to faint twice during the morning and had to find somewhere to prop myself up before I did. I decided that the pain and risks were not worthwhile. I hope you start to feel more confident in your job soon, did you say you are in a pharmacy? It is expected that you will make lots of mistakes, you have lots to learn, and I'm sure they know that. If you are worried about how you are getting on, could you ask your boss for a chat to discuss your progress?

Oh gawd. Has your resignation been accepted? Or can you retract?

It should be possible to work out a way of taking painkillers to enable you to work, get too and from work, sleep etc. If you can't get a GP appointment at a reasonable time, then could a pharmacist help? Obviously, without knowing all your local area services, transport etc that suggestion might not be possible.

A first day at work is always exhausting - so 4 hours extra sleep after getting home really isn't completely out of the range of normality. Taking 3 times as long as usual to walk the same distance isn't out of the range of normality either after an unusually tiring day. Would a trolley for yourelf to lean on help you? Or a bike be easier than walking?

Sorry it didn't work out for you Natalie, but top marks to you for trying. Stay positive about it and seek a diagnosis if you haven't got one yet.

I can empathise with you on the fatigue, having suffered many years, so its a case of do want you can and accept what you cant do, but seek out any chance to improve your lot as you seem to be doing.🙂

Natalie, I'm sorry to hear how the job went but please don't be too hard on yourself. When I was at college (many years ago now) I did a stint in a bakery during the vacations. We lived in a rural area with no early buses, so I cycled 5 miles to Tonbridge, spent from 8.30 a.m. until 4. 30 p.m. on my feet (half hour for lunch) then cycled home - and it was really hard work I found. I gained considerable respect for the girls there who HAD to do the job for a living (and not much of a wage) as I already knew I was going to have another kind of career and was just earning money in the meantime. I had a lot of laughs with the girls and did manage to stick the time out but I felt dreadful for the first little while.

I hope you get the help you need from your Dr and that the pain in your legs will pass very quickly. Don't feel like a failure - it just wasn't the job for you at this time.

Big hugs...........

So sorry to hear that Natalie, it must be so hard for you. Working in a cafe, restaurant etc can be very busy, and as you explained to them that you needed rest preiods and didn't get one, is not on. As I was told yesterday by my boss, he needs someone to work! which I do. Have you thought of working at home, using the computer, I wanted to do this but my RLS, in my legs, seems to getting worse again, so being on my feet is better for me in that respect, but really, I would rather do work at home. Don't give up Natalie, there IS something out there for you. Good luck and lots of love Sheena X ps I don't want to ask anything yet, about progress, it could put me right back :( Take care X

Just {{{Hugs}}} Natalie.

This isn't the first time I've heard people who work in shops generally say how difficult it's made for them and how they've had to run higher because they daren't risk going hypo at the till as the management refuse to acknowledge what the problem is.

A T1 friend nearly got the sack when she was expecting twins because she wore her uniform blouse outside instead of tucked-in - they didn't have pregnant uniforms and expected her to do something about it pronto, herself - or be disciplined ! Utterly ridiculous.

But the good news is having told em where they could put their job, as soon as she could and the babes now being 3-ish - she now has a new job as a Ward Clerk at her hospital on the neo-natal ward!

The right job is there - you will find it mate!

I don't have any partic fatigue issues other than creeping old age and complete unfitness. I thought I'd take meself off to the local council Leisure Centre in Bedworth and check them out. I have been enrolled on a 12 week course in the 'Ladies Only' gym, in the 'respiratory' class they do, which sort of tries to get people up and running again, then if you improve enough, you can continue from there if you want to, doing whatever you want in that gym but on your own. The sessions are ?2.60 an hour instead of the normal price of ?4.60. A lot of bendy/stretchy things rather than violent stuff!

First pukka session tomorrow, as long as daughter's furniture arrives in time for me to go there at all .....

Check it out, locally - I thought 'what a damn good idea!'

Hi Natalie I'm really sorry that it went badly for you. I hope that you get another job soon and that it works out well for you x

Sorry it didnt go well for you Natalie , you could tell from you post when you posted about getting the job , you was really looking forrward to it .They say things happen for a reason lets hope there is something better for you waiting round the corner 🙂

Oh Natalie. I am so sorry you are having a rough time. I think you did fantastic, to find a job, pass the interview and give it a try. It was just not the job for you. You need time to build yourself up and be ready to work. I couldn't even manage an interview at the moment, because of depression, sleep aponea and other things, but I try every day to do a little more. I couldn't even go to the local shop on my own at one stage. Don't feel bad. I think you gave it your all, and so don't be so hard on yourself. pm me if you want a chat.[[[[[[[hugs]]]]]]

So sorry to hear this new job hasn't worked out for you.
As everyone else said, don't be too hard on yourself, you are suffering from fatigue. I only suffer from lazyness. When I do go and work at school as a kitchen assistant (2 hours of setting up the tables and benches, dishing out dinner, cleaning and tidying away tables and benches, sweeping the floor) I usually come home worn out.

Natalie, if you have health problems, discussed them first and your needs weren't met, that could be a legal employment issue and it might be worth going back to them, discussing it and seeing if it can get better support sorted out.

On the other hand, I appreciate that you might feel better without all that and, having made the decision, just want to leave it behind as a bad memory. This is fine too.

It's ok not to be ready to be on your feet all day, working without a break in a stressful environment.

What can you do that will make you feel positive? Are you a 'going for walks' person? Art gallery? It's ok to take time out.

Hi Natalie. I'm sorry the job didn't work out. But you tried. You applied for a job, passed the interview and gave it a go so well done for that. If they went back on their promise and made it impossible for you then that's not your fault. I'm sure there's another job out there for you, just not that one.

I once walked out on a job after just one morning. It was when my middle daughter was a baby and we were hard up and needed more money. A friend told me about a job in an office just 2 minutes walk away from my house. It seemed too good to be true but I applied, my friend put a word in and I got the job. It meant I had to drop B off at my mums and hubby could pick her up when he finished work at lunchtime. Anyway, it was horrid! My new boss was a nasty man and it soon became obvious that he was a bit dodgy too. A large part of my job was fending off people he owed money to. The phone never stopped ringing so I couldn't get any other work done.

As I was so close to home I popped home at lunchtime and never went back! A week later I got another part time job working for a couple who treated me like family. XXXXX

Hi Natalie, I'm a great believer in fate, if it didn't work out there then it is for the best and something better will be just around the corner. Take care xxxx
