THE family of a girl from Truro who suddenly fell seriously ill have spoken of their eternal gratitude to the NHS for saving her life.
Little Sho-Yin, from Prospect Gardens, was whisked by ambulance to Sheffield Children's Hospital, after being diagnosed by a GP with a possible urinary tract infection or appendicitis earlier that day.
The bubbly four-year-old was with her parents Kirstie Newton and Wailim Wong on the first day of a visit to her maternal grandmother in Immingham, near Grimsby, during the October half-term.
She spent eight days on a specialist children's ward after being diagnosed with gallstones, which were inoperable because of a serious infection in her appendix.
