Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Wish I'd found you guys sooner, I learned more in thirty minutes than I had in the previous year and a half. Not that my health care people had been negligent, more like I was in denial I think. 😱
My dealing with and recognising the symptoms of diabetes has been sort of messed up by having a brain haemhorrage last year, it caused nerve damage of its own, to the point that I can no longer tell what is diabetic nerve damage or brain haemhorrage nerve damage.
I had been managing my type 2 by diet and exercise and doing not to badly, I'd lost about a stone and was progressing sensibly and then had the road traffic accident that caused the haemhorrage. That helped me loose another two stone, I am now flirting with 15 stone which I haven't been since I was a super fit teenager.
I am really happy about finding you, as I need the education, every little helps as they say :D
I want to live as "normal" a life as I can for as long as I can, so any and all help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

Hi Jimbo, welcome to the forum🙂 Very sorry to hear about the RTA and haemmorhage, that must be tough. But it sounds like you've got a good positive attitude despite all that, so good for you! If there are any questions you'd like to ask, please do - nothing is considered 'silly' and we'd be more than happy to help if we can.

Two nights on the forum and I now realise just how ignorant I am. I was diagnosed Feb 2009 as part of my ongoing Angina checks, they called me back three times to re-do my bloods before confirming. I have always eaten and drank (not alcohol) as I pleased, but it was only in my late forties that I started to ballon up to 18.5 stone, mainly due to a more sedentiary life style (and being a chocoholic). What I didn't realise was that the diabetes probably contributed to the heart problems.
I am going to die of starvation 🙄 all the good for you foodstuffs are on my die before eating list :D can you walk off diabetes? probably need to do a hundred miles a day 😱
Still, I am determined to improve, my Doctor wants me to get down to 12.5 stone, a weight I have not seen since I was a six foot 14 year old, 2.5 stone to go! (Aye right) I'd be happy to be 13.5st :D I've gone from having more chins than the Chinese phone book to just one. I'd forgotten what that guy looked like in the mirror.
Thanks everyone for your positive comments, be prepared for the barage of questions I am still trying to work out what and how to ask.

You've made a good start Jimbo! You don't have to miss out on having special 'treat' foods, just make sure they are for special occasions and you'll enjoy them all the more. And you will find that most things can be substituted for other things that you will quickly adapt your palate to and enjoy.
