Relationship to Diabetes
At risk of diabetes
hi I am new here. I’ve joined because I’m wondering if my problem is some sort of insulin/blood sugar thing. I have this episodes where I feel drugged after eating and all I can do is sleep. Not all the time just random. But I start to feel tired within 20 minutes then just have to sleep for a couple of hours and feel really rough after. My eyes close and it’s uncontrollable like being drugged. I thought I’d narrowed it down to pastry so have been avoiding that but today it’s happened whilst a festival when I had a hotdog. Can anybody throw any light on this? I’ve had the H1Ac test which was normal. I have thyroid problems. Thanks

Hi Lolajone, welcome to the forum.

Feeling tired is a typical symptom of types 1 and 2 diabetes. Are you only tired after eating, or do you feel tired at other times, too? have you noticed if you are going to the toilet more frequently or feel more thirsty than normal? There are other things that may be causing you to feel tired after eating. Hopefully, the article below can help you.

Hi, I totally relate to what you are saying, for years as soon as I had my lunch, always sandwich and crisps I would have to crash out for a couple of hours, ended up setting the alarm on my phone or I would sleep most of the afternoon. Sometimes I even wondered if I had enough energy to get from the dining room to the lounge to get on the settee, it was that bad. Since being on a low carb diet this has stopped and I actually make it through the day, took about 4 months for me. It was definitely the white bread, usually 3 slices as I had that a few days ago and the exact same thing happened, I definitely can’t handle bread. Have you had any tests to see where your blood sugar levels are, if not might be worth getting yourself tested.

Well - do you actually see an Endocrinologist or only your GP for your thyroid probs, because diabetes (especially Type 1 but not exclusively T1) are very closely related in some ways. And are your drugs for the thyroid issue controlling it properly and enough - what were your last blood test results for that and how long ago was it?

Hello and welcome to the forum. 🙂 I ate a stew for lunch yesterday, spent the afternoon in bed. :( Hateful.
