Wine

After 5 weeks of T2 diagnosis, I had my first 125ml of white wine tonight.
I will see in 2 hours how much it has affected my BG.
How does it change everyone else's.

Wine is absolutely fine for me - neglible difference in BG - Port is not so good though (which is sadly a must for me over Xmas)

I haven't tested recently. I was diagnosed in July but have had a small glass of dry white once a month. I had an eye op yesterday and am staying in a hotel for a few days near the hospital so I can be careful what I do and know I could get to the hospital if I need to. I'm on steroids which are making me a bit hungry. I'm treating myself to lunch out every day. Today I was considering visiting a small French restaurant which I last went to 5 months ago after a previous op. However I walked past a Michelin star restaurant which has a lunch menu Friday and Saturday. The sun was shining and they had a space. I asked them to choose a wine which would go with either the starter I chose of venison carpaccio or the main of cod with saffron watercress and carrot. I assumed they would choose a white. I should have checked if they had house wine as the glass i got which was the smallest measure was £12. It was a delicious red and the first red I've had since diagnosis as I assumed dry white was a good fit.
My last hba1c in December was 44 but these last few weeks I have not been sufficiently careful and am due another hba1c in two months.
I think it's about mindful eating and portion control. Probably better to avoid beer and cider but small amounts of wine should be fine.

I will probably have a glass tomorrow but will probably not have a glass Sunday. Then it's back to real life!!

Yay! I seem to be able to tolerate a small glass. My BG was fine. I think like you have all said l just need to be having it as a treat and enjoy it.

Good to hear @annie25

Everything in moderation and all that…

Quite a few calories in wine, of course, which can soon add-up. But not a problem if you aren’t drinking often. 🙂

@annie25
I have a couple of glasses of red wine most evening with our meal.

Red wine is good for you on so many levels (in moderation) white wine not so good

Alan
