So it would seem that my GP Centre has done it again!!!

Every time I put a prescription online at my surgery it doesn?t get read correctly and I end up with all the wrong items or simply not enough of them to survive any more than 15-20 days on!!

My additional notes on the latest prescription reads,

Please ensure that the Humalin I (Item 2) is the 3ml cartridges and NOT the kwik pen!! Also, I have changed my blood meter to the Contour Next USB as it is more detailed to my needs! If there is any issue with the supply of the Glucose testing strips, please let me know asap. Thanks.

So, what did I receive I hear you ask!!! Well I received exactly what I didn?t want!!! I now have 100 test strips that are no good to me as they aren't for my metre and 5 more Humilin I kwik pens that I can't use! They seem to limit us on supplies due to the cost of it all! Yet it seems to me that the NHS doesn?t help itself and they certainly aren?t helping me right now!!

This has happened before and the hospital was not happy to learn that I have had to break the kwik pens open and remove the cartridges in order to put them into my half unit Humapen!!


I understand that mistakes happen!! But every single time, really!!!! I mean its not like it's life or death or anything!!!....Oh no wait!!!

So does anyone else fall victim to these daft and costly mistakes? Or is it just me???:confused:
 
I think you should start with a letter to the Practice Manager, copied to your consultant at the hospital. Include a list of the exact descriptions of your meds as you should receive them.

For instance, on mine I always put Humulin I 100 units/ml suspension for injection, 3ml cartridges. The one time I didn't, I got disposable pens instead, as you have.
 
You should write a letter to the Practice Manager at your surgery. I've also had mistakes made - just this last time they gave me blood ketone strips instead of blood glucose strips, and in the past it took four attempts to get the correct lantus autopen from them, despite providing them with a PIP code. Also. if you feel you are being restricted you should state the obvious, that you are not going to 'get better', and it is a waste of NHS resources to have to collect prescriptions more often than necessary (I also had this happen, when they reduced my test strips from 300 to 100 😡)
 
Ye I think that will be my next move! Altho I have spoken with them this morning and they have assured me theyhave amended everything on the system!! Bit like they were supposed to when the Hospital instructed them to do so!!.Fingers crossed it will get sorted 🙂
 
ye the limitations are daft!! Its not as if we are wasting them! They all get used for all intense and purposes!! we use them because we have too! Not because we want to!!
 
I have received lancets instead of blood testing strips the last 3 times I have ordered my prescriptions online, despite leaving additional notes. I was left with 300 lancets and hardly any strips so had to go into the surgery to sort it anyway!
 
Thats just wrong isnt it!! For me if its not the surgery messing it up! its boots losing the prescription!haha. I have only had diabetes for a year and it has been a nightmare everytime I need something!
 
Pharmacies sell to the NHS at a profit and are also paid a set sum for each drug prescribed + a small amount for packaging. So really, if the Dr prescribes 3 months worth of drugs rather than say 2 weeks then the saving would be 6 x whatever the set sum + packaging.

I can understand that they may not wish to prescribe 3 months worth of something you may subsequently stop using and I can hear you say "but I'm not going to be coming off insulin" which is true, but you could decide to change insulin type, or meter so you'd need different strips. I should think a sensible compromise could be reached if some common sense was applied.
