Relationship to Diabetes
Hi All,

I am looking for some advice my husband has recently been diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic. He is on tablets and still trying to get his diabetes under control.

His mood swings are out of control, he becomes very angry and shouts as the smallest things. Before he was on medication he was very calm and level headed.

I do not know what to do and if this is a phase how long it will last for.

Please can anyone offer me and help or advise on this problem?

Emma

What are his levels like? mood swings could be related to high bg levels, although they could also be due to just being diagnosed and experiencing a whole knew thing that none of us really want to be dealt in life x

What tablets is he ok? A warm welcome to the forum as well x

Welcome to the forum, MrsD.
As others have said, there are 2 main newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes related issues to consider: Anger about diagnosis and mood swings due to changes in blood glucose levels.
How recently was he diagnosed? How did diagnosis cone about? When did he start medication? Has he changed his diet and / or exercise levels? Does the diagnosis have any impact on his work? Eg if he's a driver, in forces etc.

His levels seem to be averaging between 9.5 and 11 at the moment. I understand it must be hard for him but it's so out of character.

Hi, he was diagnosed about 7 weeks ago and diagnosis came from a routine check up at the doctors. To be honest other than drinking a lot of water which we only noticed he used to do when he started the tablets, there wasn't any symptoms. He has cut out all sugar from his teas and all of his sweat treats, he loves biscuits and jelly sweets. Other than that his diet and exercise levels haven't really changed that much.
He works in an office so there has been no impact on his work.

Hi Steff, he is on gliclazide and metformin.
From what i know the met should be ok as for the other med I don't take it an can't help on that . With those numbers you just quoted to @Kaylz his mood is properly the levels of his bloods. It's difficult when your partner has diabetes what your used to and there character suddenly can change.
