Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1.5 LADA
I thought I should explain myself and the thinking behind my adherence to the low carb/low GI life.

When I was first diagnosed as T2 my doctor in London, who was really switched on and knew a lot about diabetes, told me I could do myself a lot of good by limiting the carb content of my meals. I'd been doing the low salt/low fat thing for years as my mother had hypertension and high cholesterol and I wanted to support her. For a T2, it's well known that the diet helps, even if the medical profession hasn't really caught on yet. But now that I'm officially a T1.5/LADA instead of a T2, does the low carb/low GI thing still apply?

Well yes, it does. Without the proper medications to manage my version of diabetes, the only tool I had was the diet, it did help a bit, and I noticed some things as time went on. Over time my general health has improved in some areas (I have a few other problems such as Rheumatoid Arthritis). My skin is clearer, I'm not hungry all the time as I was when trying to follow any of the many calorie based diets out there and my digestive processes are much more regular. Plus I'm slowly losing weight, not a lot, it's about 5.5 kilos so far this year. I have an endless list of allergies too, mostly food related, but many of them are greatly reduced these days and I think it's because of the diet though I can't prove that. In fact, I can't prove any of this, it's must what I perceive is happening.

So, if I seem a bit preachy sometimes, you now know why. I'm a convert and they're the worst. :D

Great to hear that you are getting so many unexpected benefits also Alison 🙂

Well said Alison & keep at it 😎 Keep being possitive & as a famous super market says every little helps 🙂

I've been diagnosed for just over two weeks now and from day one I've cut all c**p out of my diet, exercised twice a day (totally 30 mins, easy does to to start with) and already I've lost just under a stone and just generally feel better! I'm still learning about all this and although it does worry me, reading how relaxed people on here are about the disease, does help.

Glad it's working for you, even more inspiration for us all to do the same.

Cheers.
