As some of you may know, I came off insulin just before Xmas, so I emailed DVLA to ask how to regain my previous full licence. I was told (on a second email after I queried why the first didn't answer my question at all) that I had to fill in the famous DIAB1 form. Duly completed with some puzzlement as to it's applicability to someone not on hypo inducing medication and posted off. Today I received a letter from DVLA - we are pleased to inform you that you are safe to drive on your existing licence - t---ss--rs.
Phoned the medical team at DVLA who inform me that if I wish to regain my full licence I have to fill in a form which they will send me and get my GP to fill in form D4 with medical (which I have to pay for).
So apparently once you are put on a restricted licence you have to jump through hoops to reverse the situation.
