Hi guys
I've been type2 for a couple of years now and had it under control, however I move towns and changed doctors, I've only ever been seen once about my diabetes, and unless I call no-one ever calls me in for checks, is it solely down to me to book an appointment with the nurse? I'm asking as at my last surgery I was always sent letters and called in for check ups on my diabetes, at this new surgery this dont happen.
Cheers guys

Unfortunately not all surgeries or areas have a uniform approach/system. You could contact your surgery and ask what the system is there, and also some are not doing routine checks at present.

Exactly - I moved from Kidderminster to Coventry - not that far. But the systems were different - it is up to you to find out what they are - don't expect the surgery to read your mind!

It depends on the GP practice. At my old practice, I make the appointment. Though I was reminded at appointments, and was able to make an appointment then, 6 months in advance.
At my current practice, it is staff who make the appointments, and sent out appointment letters. Also, I'm only able to make appointments 2 weeks ahead.

That’s not great for you @Markmids

As a person with diabetes you should be getting regular checks, support and help. Certainly you should have an annual review to update your GP on how things are going for you. You should also get annual eye screening.

Diabetes UK has a list of ‘15 essentials’ that you should be receivingin normal times, though some of the screening is currently being delayed because of the pandemic.

I’d suggest you contact your GP and ask what the situation currently is and whether you can at least have some regular blood checks
done?
