Gosh, that's a carby menu... I would go for a salad with extra veg instead of chips, or maybe the fish with extra veg and sauce on the side, or the grilled halloumi cheese with salad. I can now tolerate a few new potatoes or a small portion of basmati rice or wholewheat pasta, but that's after a few years of this low-carb lark.
I think whatever you choose (not pies or pasta dishes) you should say "without bread/ciabatta/chips/mash/rice - can I have a side salad or extra veg (not peas) instead please. Unless you choose the salad anyway! I usually go for a soup or salad with no extras.
I know there are plenty of people who will disagree with me but I think one naughty meal every now and then is fine, I have lost a lot of weight my diabetes is under control and I do have chips, but no rice, pasta, cakes or pies and I eat only low carb bread and I love caulie mash and quiche, I also eat a lot of fresh fish
I guess I'm worried that if I allow myself to eat something I know is bad for me, then I'm admitting that this is a "diet" change and not a lifestyle change. I need a radical change of my own viewpoint and for me I think that involves abstention from anything carb-heavy, no matter how much I like it. Not that I would advocate anyone else do that, but I feel like its the best path for me personally.
