Evening everyone. Wondering what the thinking is on using whey protein powder shakes as a replacement for meals when trying to lose weight. It's low in everything and in a 31g scoop packs 26g protein. I realise it's normally associated with building muscle mass but was wondering how useful it might be as part of a low carb diet as in 5:2 or the 8 week blood sugar diet where Dr Mosley talks about the option of using shakes.

Whey protein can be used as part of a diet. I wouldn't have just protein as my food intake. There are essential fats needed as well. From what I've seen of dieting, the hardest part is to keep the weight off. I would eat low carb normal food, set up good habits and look at a 12mth weight loss plan. (If only I took more of my own advice, I can attest to being 100-105kg for several years on LCHF and an A1c of 5.2-6.1% 🙂 )
