Sorry if this should be in another forum but just wanted to ask what people thought about T1s taking Whey Protein drinks etc. I tried one after gym on Saturday and found it stopped me having to drop my insulin for a day after the gym.

Basically I'm trying to loose weight round me belly but also wouldn't mind building some muscle....

This sounds about right..............

The slowly converted energy from the protein was most likely absorbed at the same rate the muscles were refilling there energy stores, so cancelling out the need to drop your background dose/quick acting doses, which was usually necessary to provide the muscles with their refill............

As far as I know most protein products are low or no carb foods (like lean chicken). Some protein foods like cheese also contain fat which if you had (for example) a cheese sandwich, would slow the spike in the glucose levels.

I'm not sure of the exact science, but someone will be along with another answer soon

I know some (low carbing) T2s on another forum who regularly take whey protein.

You may need to begin to watch protein-to-glucose conversion and count 50% of the protein weight over 4-8 hours as it can/will be turned to glucose over an extended time.
