Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Just thought it would be nice to discuss any current research thats going on/on going in the cure/better treatment area. Discuss.. lol 😛

Wow Northerner,

I've just read that article and it does look promising. That and stem cells. Given that now obstructions towards stem cell research in the USA have been lifted by Obama things should really start to move seeing as it's the yanks that have all of the money for this kind of thing. Thank god that the shaved chimp is now out of the White House. A cure has been brought closer thanks to the American people voting wisely.

The prospect of not having to take pills for the rest of my life is appealing-roll on Star Trek technology where no one ever has anything more serious than a cold or a hang over from last nights bender...

I think it's going to happen, I really do. Stem cells are the way forward really, and I think with the restrictions lifted it really is just a matter of time.

Re the smartinsulin: wow. This is why I feel things will somehow work around to a better system, or even a couple of better systems. The distance come in the last 40 years is testament to this, I think...

I was told there would be a cure by the time i'm 25. well i'm almost 23 now :(

maybe 45?

I know, I know. I don't think it will be instant. But I do think it will come. BEFORE you are 45. And before my son is 33...I'll admit, that feels almost impossible. But I actually think it isn't impossible anymore, given the science...

Sigh. Fingers crossed, and one day at a time.

Don't hold your breath

My mum was told in 1969 that there would be a cure before long. Some 40 years later the only things that have changed are:
1 .Better syringes, pens etc (she used to have a metal syringe that had to be boiled and left in surgical spirit)
2 Blood testing equipment (they only had urine tests 40 years ago using a glass testtube glass pipette, and little tablets to put in it to see what colour it changed)
3 A bigger choice of insulin
4 Glucose in tablet form ( only used to be powder)

Not sure if you've spotted the following in the 'In the News' forum. Not a cure, but could be an end to carb-counting, hypos and hypers! Something called 'Smartinsulin' that responds to blood glucose changes in the manner of a pancreas.

that sounds promising doesnt it, wouldnt it be great to just inject every couple of days!! I do think with all the research that things will get better for diabetics, not convinced of "cure" though.

my partner is very positive about things getting better, every time we are out and I have to inject he says, "you wont have to do that one day, just pop a pill" bless:D

That sounds good enough to me, I wouldn't be as bothered about a cure!

Aww he sounds lovely :D

There will be a big business in better treatment/cure so there is motivation on the corporate medical companies to work on this area. Also with the new president being more tech/science savvy I am sure we will see some interesting results over the next few years.

Exactly my thoughts!

Tbh, the thing i wish for is no need for injections and no hypos.

i could live with diabetes so much easier if those two were elminated.

if only eh lol

xx

wow northener that article is really good. i hope they will be able to perfect this technology soon and then all we may have to do is inject once!!!! roll on the future.
