Where can I find a menu for 7 days?

I have diabetes cook books but what I really want is someone to help me work out an eating plan for 7days.

When i was diagnosed I asked the dietician (who I didn't get to see until 2 months after being diagnosed) and even then had to go privately because the dietician at the dr surgery was booked up for 6 months!!!!!!!!!!!!😡, could she do me a proper menu planner, breakfast, lunch, dinner. She gave me a bloody leaflet.

On my first visit to the diabetes clinic at my dr's surgery I asked the same question. All she wanted to know was what I ate and wrote it down doh. I then asked how the hell could I out some weight on if I wasn't to eat sugary or fat things. She told me to eat scones with jam and cream. I give up, so Can anyone direct me somewhere, a book, a website that gives you menu planners?
 
SOme diabetic cook books contain menus and meal planners, try your local library and see if they have any.

I think maybe these days places like weight watchers and slimming world may also cater for diabetes, so it may be worth checking out their websites too.

I too have asked, in the past for help with planning meals over a period of a week, and was also given no help whatsoever! Why do you want one? (Just wondering if there's other ways to get the information you are after) I know I wanted one for 3 reasons: it just to get an idea of a healthy diet; to help me count carbs and to get an idea of portion sizes.

If you look on NHS websites there are quite often some good tips there... I know the Leicestershire and Leeds NHS diabetes sites are fairly good but can't remember the links off the top of my head...
 
Lorraine - I'm assuming that you were diagnosed and started on insulin relatively recently? Like most adults who develop T1D, I was underweight, but gradually began to put on weight merely by continuing to eat the same types of things - due to insulin, my body began to absorb more calories. So, don't worry - weight gain will happen naturally. You're right to say you should limit fat in your diet, but sugar is OK, provided it is balanced by insulin, although some people find a low carbohydrate diet works for them. The best type of course / advice to seek is DAFNE Dose Adjustment for Normal Eating, which means you can adjust insulin doses to what you eat, rather than eating according to insulin. However, access to courses is patchy. There is an online course at http://www.bdec-e-learning.com/

Personally, my eating plan is basically the same as my partner (without diabetes) (although he usually eats bigger portions), and depends on (a) what comes out of the garden - so strawberries, raspberries, raddishes, duck eggs, broad beans, green leaves just now, and (b) what's on offer at the supermarket.

Rosemary Conley and Anthony Worrel Thompson have produced cook books in association with DUK I seem to recall :confused: Rosemary Conley has an online slimming group (as all the others have) if you cant get to classes. I chose RC because its not 'faddy or expensive' and its me who chooses what I eat when and its based on the general 'healthy eating' principals. You can get 'portion pots' as well so no weighing just simply follow the colour chart which tells you which scoop to use for which food. She also has some fab exercise plans as well and a good online support comunity with friendly people and helpful resources. Bit like this place really 😉

Hello Knottyabbey - much though I like the idea of a "good food list" I think it might be better if we said what worked for us as individuals. For example, for me, oat biscuits seem to send my blood glucose haywire so would not appear on my list. Do keep meaning to try some Frank's ice cream tho

Thank you for your advice. I have been type1 for 2 and half years. Have been on the same dose of insulin since day one. Northerner directed me to the Bournemouth Hospital site and I am working my way through it, thank you for your advice there. I can't get to see a dr in my surgery until mid august, but have now written to the surgery asking yet again to be referred to a diabetes clinic at the hospital. I find it so frustrating, its my body and all the time we are being told about longterm complications yet I can't even get to see aspecialist.
