i use the novamix 30 pen and a 8mm needle.which is the best way to inject it.straight or at an angle, because i have bruising one side of my waist thanks.

I use an 8mm needle. Swapped many years ago from 12mm. Often wondered though if using a longer needle would help insulin get into the system better (or is that a stupid question).

Note you are from Liverpool. I attend my diabetic appointments under a consultant at a hospital in Liverpool. Interested to know which one one as I don't seem to see a diabetic nurse only a consultant and started to think I may be missing out on something.(sorry for digressing but have always felt the size of a needle is petty to ask a consultant).

I was told to inject straight. So at 90 degrees to your body. 🙂

i used to be using 8mm and had a lot of trouble with bruising. Im now using 5mm and have no bruising and its also less painful.

always injected at 90 degrees though.

Sorry. Forgot to say inject at 90 degrees. Only seem to bruise when hit tiny blood vessels.

I have 6mm needles. My surgery prescribed some 8mm ones by mistake and by jove they hurt! Went back to 6mm very quickly. 😛

kezza i have a diabetic nurse phone me,for my sugar levels every 10 days.dont have a consultant yet.might ask next time for a smaller needle, thanks everyone.

Hi
With the longer needles they also say (well some people do) to pinch up the skin a bit, with the 5 or 6 mm needles you don't have to, straight in at a 90 degree angle with no pinching necessary. I used to inject my daughter from a tiny baby to the age of 6 when she started pumping and I never needed to pinch. Are people still told to pinch?

Do you rotate injection sites, because I find hurts more if you always inject in the same place.

I inject at 90 degree angle, so straight on. I now use 6mm needles and only bruise if I bleed (if I do bleed the bruise is usually huge, tennis ball size) but when I used bigger needles I used to bruise all the time.

mite depend how slim u r, if ur slim then i think 45 degree is better,
i changed to 45 degree and i get no marks and no pain, its great.

i inject at 90 due to the fact i have nearly no fat on my body at all lol. it is easier if i pinch up to. i use the 5mm needles and find they are great as i get no bleeds or bruises either. i rotate my injection sites with every injection and also use a fresh needle each time to reduce the risk of skin infections and also the fact the pressure on the point of the needle when used is likely to bend the tip slightly so it is less comfortable to use.
