When and how often to eat

This makes sense to me if you need to lose weight.
However, the OP mentioned that they "can't afford to lose weight" so does not have the "energy stores" you mention.
Professor Roy Taylor's ReTUNE study (recently published) shows all 'normal' T2Ds need to lose weight regardless of BMI. Accumulation of excess fat in the liver and pancreas makes the liver insulin resistant and reduces insulin secretion by the pancreas, a double whammy. Waist measurement is a good indicator and an ultrasound scan will detect a fatty liver. After mine the radiologist said, 'You have a fatty liver, treat it with diet'.

I did and got my BMI down to the low 20s on a 16:8 2 meal/day low carb regime. I am continuing with that for weight maintenance. I am following the rules of the Harcombe Diet now. They are the opposite of eat when you are hungry: have no more than three regular meals a day, eat enough nutritious real food to feel full and, in general, do not eat carbs and fat in the same meal.

I tend to eat at 12 hourly intervals as that seems to work - if I waited until I was hungry meals would be all over the place and not at all convenient.
 
Amazed this thread is still being read and responded to! My last blood tests showed HbA1c of 42. BMI is 21.14 for those who are curious. I'm eating breakfast, lunch and dinner at a normal time. Apple cider vinegar (ACV) with water and a dash of orange squash for taste before breakfast and chia seeds in almond milk in the evening. ACV and and chia seeds are both supposed to be good for lowering/regulating blood sugar. I will wait and see if it makes any difference to my HbA1c but either way they are both supposed to be good for you.
