I once got invited to be an extra in a Royal Navy recruitment advert. Told not to shave look like I’ve been living rough for a few weeks. Ferried to a frigate after a really long drive to the south coast in the small hours of the morning. Put in a green & white shell suit. Filmed for an hour after spending 10 hours on this boat. Then got edited out of the 30 second add. Good money for doing nothing.

Ooh good question. I’ve a few. In the winter of 1985 myself, Mr Eggy and our eldest daughter, who was nine months old, were on the front page of our local newspaper because our Border collie Ben ran onto a frozen pond to chase ducks and crashed through the ice, three young boys launched a rowing boat and smashed through the ice and rescued him. I wrote to the newspaper to say thanks. A reporter and photographer came to our house. Never expected to be headline news, slow news day obviously!

I worked in the catering department at a local sports centre/concert venue from 1988 to 1997. I’ve served Ant and Dec when they were PJ and Duncan, Terence Donavan ( Jason’s dad) he was in panto and had a baked potato every single day for his lunch. I washed dishes for T’Pau, Carol Decker was lovely, they brought their own caterers and just needed someone to clean up after them. I literally had China in my Hands! When Rufus Sewell ( Scoop, The Holiday and much more) was just a young and upcoming actor in the 80s, he was in a touring RSC play at my venue. He asked if anyone could cook for him and a friend after the performance. My boss and I said yes and we cooked him steak and chips with a pepper sauce and all the trimmings at about 10.30pm!

In another life after catering, I booked Gregor Fisher ( Rab C.Nesbit, The Railway Children) a villa in Crete. He lives just over the border in Langholm about 20 miles away. Before that he stopped me whilst shopping in Tesco and asked if I knew where the redcurrant sauce was!

I’ve left the best to last. In 2019 on a European road trip, we stopped in Portofino for lunch on our way to stay in a villa in Tuscany. Who should walk by but Steven Spielberg and Bruce Springfield, with their wives and entourage, fresh off a posh yacht! I mean, I never actually spoke to them but I was very close. 😉

As a child, I was an extra on 'Z Cars': my school's class was filmed crossing a road. Sadly the BBC wiped the episode .

Many years ago now Mrs Alan and myself were on "escape to the country" with Nicki Chapman (an absolute lovely person). We were looking to move to Shropshire, with sheep as neighbours.

When it first aired we didn't leave the house for about 3 days (we live in a small village) and when we did all we got was, "oh saw you on TV the other day". We even got recognised on holiday in Fuerteventura.

Do you know how many times that programme is repeated ?

As it happens, we never did move, but being on the show was a great experience

What a good theme and must admit my most memorable moments are much more personal like birth of children/ passing driving test etc but will throw in 3 more wider memories in no particular order and cover happy and darker themes.
1.Once sat next to UKs richest person at a formal dinner ( Duke of Westminster).
2.Interviewed by police in connection with the hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper ( long story and 1000s were interviewed).
3. Me and the wife went for a meal with friends ( 3 others) and we were the only ones around the table that did not have an Olympic Gold or Silver medal or world athletics record.
Sure we all have these little moments.
Take care all

I have one which is topical:
A few years ago, I wrote a blog for Diabetes UK.
My post about the challenges of managing Type 1 during a work Christmas Party was quoted in The Guardian.

Once had a chat with late Eric Bristow at darts final in Blackpool, it was years after he retired but he was happy to have pics taken & chat to fans around.

I've been drunk in a pub with members of Fairport Convention
I've had a meal with Bryan Robson, but I didn't know who he was...
I've had half a dozen short stories published (And even saw one for sale in a magazine in WH Smiths!)
I've had a horror film released on DVD, and next year it's coming out on blu-ray!

I was on TV Top of the Form in 1969 (if anyone remembers that). Unfortunately our team didn’t progress beyond the first round

Pre and post my first marriage I met and conversed with numerous members of various pop groups, Radio1 DJs such as Noel Edmunds, the late Stuart Henry, DLT etc etc but no permanent records - first husband and I worked part time for a promoter who arranged local events at various venues and one funny incident has always stuck in the memory banks. A venue where Amen Corner were booked, my chap showed the Group into their Dressing Room whereupon Andy Fairweather Lowe almost immediately asked him, 'D'you know how this geezer works, then?' and assuming AFW must be enquiring about the promoter who'd booked them and we worked for, Bas launched into a brief explanation of how the bloke usually operated. Exasperated sigh from AFW. 'Noooooooooooooooo - THIS geezer!' smacking the gas water heater (looked like an oversized Ascot) over the washbasin with one hand - 'I need to wash my 'air!'

Photo in the local paper twice - first time dressed as a pupil of St Trinians whilst still at school sitting on the back of a carnival float and the second when B and I got married. Didn't have any 'professional' photos taken when Peter and I married - as 99% of our friends and guests had 35mm point & shoot cameras we asked them to take as many photos as they wanted and when they had them developed have 2 copies printed and let us have the duplicates please. (much cheaper & quicker to order the duplicates when delivering the reel of film for processing than later, then, and we said upfront we'd be happy to pay the extra anyway cos still far far cheaper than booking a professional)

Is living in Shropshire your claim to fame
It's relatively unpopulated so there are not that many of you.
