Seriously though, I am totally for priming now, it just makes sense to do so. It's the practicalities I'm wondering about, the method in that manual is very dramatic.

There are two questions coming out of this thread for me - what's in your kit bags, and how do you handle other people's reactions? I would love to hear your thoughts on these.

Thought this one deserved it's own thread so moved it out of the 'airshot' discussion...

I tend to keep everything together in a neoprene pencil case most of the time.
Spare needles
Autopen 24 and Memoir
Needle clipper thinghy
Spent test strips
Old needle casings (post-clipping)

Meter, srtips and multiclix I carry separately in the supplied case.

Then every week or three I'll empty the detritus into sharps bin, top-up the spare needles and start again!

And I've never been challenged, or seemingly had anyone even notice what I was doing injection-wise in public. I did have to talk through the whole process with some young lads on an outward bound weekend once, they were completely fascinated!

I've got a nice denim man bag (took some persuading 🙄) which holds my test kit, both pens, a can of coke, tin of jelly babies, wallet and pen and pad, plus a few spare needles tucked in a zip pocket.

I tend to also carry another can of coke and more JBs in jacket/trouser pockets. I like the feeling of insurance with lots of hypo treatments.🙂

I've never had anyone so much as give me a funny look in 33 years. Maybe I look unhinged and dangerous, so they don't dare ? 😱

My right shoulder sags from the weight of my bag,
Hunched and contorted like an old wizened hag,
For it?s filled with the gubbins and sundry detritus
That accompany the treatment of diabetes mellitus.
Oodles of needle tips, both new and used,
A litter-strewn wasteland that cannot be excused,
Tear-offs and needle caps, those small plastic bits
That cover the pointy part that goes into my hips,
There for emergencies, ten jelly babies,
Test strips as bloody as the rivers of Hades,
A wallet, my credit cards, a blood testing diary,
A packet of dextrose that is well-past expiry,
Pens for my insulin, both slow and fast,
Without them my next meal may well be my last,
Drugs for a headache, tickets and keys,
A small wad of tissues in case I should sneeze,
Lancets and cereal bars, a small book to read,
A prescription for pills that I no longer need,
My bag could be emptied of half of this stuff,
So I think it is time that enough is enough!
Out with the rubbish and clinical waste,
Out with the dextrose ? I don?t like the taste!
Without all this in it my bag will be light,
Do you think I should do it? I think that I might!

:D

I have my testing kit (meter, strips multiclix lancing device) in the front pocket of my handbag, along with a million used test strips.

I have a pencil case which I keep in my bag at all times, containing a spare reservoir, spare cannula, vial of insulin, pen needles, insulin pen & cartridge and spare battery.

I usually have a packet of dextrose/wine gums/etc in one of my bag pockets too.

Alan, that was brilliant - another very descriptive and apt poem

I have my test kit in a sort of make-up/pencil case bag pouch which has meter, finger pricker, pot of strips, a million used strips in a zippy bit, and some jelly babies.

Then i have my pens somewhere rattling in the bottom of my handbag, along with a seperate case for all my needles! Also have some sort of carbohydrate snack in my bag.

I go through it every couple of weeks, discard of the used strips and needles that are floating in the bottom of my bag.....and start all over again!! 🙂

Since I pump I have the following:

Spare reservoir
Spare inset
Vial of insulin
Spare batteries
2p coin to unscrew battery cap if needed
Ketone meter and strips
Lancets
Pen needles and syringes
Spare glucotabs

That all goes in a makeup bag in the zippy compartment in the bottom of my bag. Then I have my meter and glucotabs in the main part of my bag 🙂

um i think I'm slacking.....!!!

just carry in my handbag my blood test kit, novorapid injection, glucose tablets. that's it!

oooo maybe I need to buy a new bag!!

Hmm, let me see. Testing kit, injector pen, pills, ICE Card, repeat prescription, a couple of plasters, some glucogel and a few jelly babies, spare needles and lancets. A small bottle of anti bacterial gel and some wet wipes. I still have my prescription exemption card in there too, just in case I ever make it south of the border and need treatment. Not sure it'd work now though. Hmm, oh yes, and the kitchen sink.

I always have my meter, jelly babies and mobile on me...

Then the rest is based on what I'm doing and where I'm going..

So for shopping, normal dog walking I take the basic's

If I'm out all day but nearish to home, I just take a spare cannular with me, if I'm travelling further a field I take the full kit bag, which contains spare cannular, batteries, cartridge, syringe and insulin vial if I'm going to be away over night then I include a Levimer Insulin Pen and Cartridge...

How do you carry the jelly babies?? Seriously, don't they collect fluff etc - I like the dextrose etc because they are small and packaged

I have a very posh Mulberry zip bag (in denial when I bought it to hide my diabetes?) containing pen case & pen, meter case with meter, dextrose tablets, cereal bar, extra needles plus all the leftvers of testing. Needs an even bigger bag to cart it round in. My repeat prescription is in my purse. Don't even go there with the million other items in my bag....

I have a little ziplock bag I keep mine in. I keep the main supply in an airtight jar at home.

We constantly search for new ways of carrying JBs. I find small boxes of mints/sweets will often hold a few and are easy to carry in a pocket or bag.

Currently working through a box of mints so I can use it. Got an Altoids mints tin in my bag which will hold 8-12 JBs. Enough for any day out.

I'm using an old 50 glucotabs container at home which holds a full packet of jb's and keeps them dry and fresh, out and about I use a 10 glucotab tube which holds 4 even 5 jb's with a little squeeze.

I don't carry a great deal it terms of 'kit', just my meter and strips, NovoPen and a pot of 10 Glucotabs.

Do many type 2s carry a kit bag?

My stuff just goes in my handbag
