Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Doctor has identified me as Type 2 diabetic, I have noticed an increase in blurred vision, shaking hands and slurred speech. Also after dropping off my daughter at college felt symptoms coming on and have no memory of journey home. Need help, what's happening.

Don't think anybody on here can answer your question directly but I would suggest that you get back to your GP as soon as possible because it sounds like there might be something other than diabetes going on and the sooner it is got to the bottom of, the better. If it comes on again then it might be sensible not to wait for your GP and to get yourself to A&E.

I think you should call 111 or get somebody to take you to A&E, it would not be safe to drive yourself.
Do you have anyone with you?

Yes my son, looks like a trip to A&E. Thanks for the advice finding out quickly, diabetes is an everyday learning process

Good move... and welcome to the forum. When you have got your immediate problem sorted we can talk about your diabetes. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the advice, unfortunately at 72 years of age following a triple bypass I also have angina, high blood pressure and high cholesterol which tends to confuse me whether symptoms are diabetes or heart related.

Are you on any meds for the diabetes @Jonty Mcginty ? I agree with the advice to seek medical help. The slurred speech and not remembering your drive home are concerning. Obvious, but don’t drive in the meantime.

I hope you find out what caused this and that you’re ok.

As others have said please call 111, just to be safe, it may not be anything, but its best to check this out

Sorry to hear you have been feeling a bit wobbly @Jonty Mcginty

Must be very worrying for you. :(

Hope you don’t have to endure too much of a wait, and can get some reassurance from the medics there.

It may be worth acquiring a home BG monitor so that you can check your levels if you ever feel similar symptoms in the future? That might offer some reassurance that the feelings aren’t blood glucose related, or suggest a course of action.

It’s likely you will need to self fund your BG meter, in which case, the best affordable meters members here have found are the SD Gluco Navii or the Spirit Tee2 - which both have test strips at around £8 for 50

Let us know how you get on at A&E and what they say.

Hi Jonty,

I would echo the other advice and contact 111, then they will advise you on the next step.

It can be very worrying when you start getting the symptoms caused by high blood sugar but in a little while you will bring these in control either by medication or lifestyle changes or both and the initial shock will fade. This condition is very manageable and life can continue as normal (mostly).

When I was first diagnosed my doctor dropped a note through my door saying contact him immediately or goto A&E as my sugar was apparently off the scale. Interestingly I was out for the evening and didn't feel any bad effects at the time so this was probably from the first measurements he did earlier in the day.

It was a bit of a panic at the time, but now its just a story.

Take care.
