Have been feeling a bit out of sorts the last couple of days, catarrh, sinus problems and headaches. Also, the last few morning readings have been sky hi , some as high as 13, so I test again, 10? test again 11? The readings are only high in the morning and, as the day goes on, come right down to 5's and 6's?

I am worried that these spikes will affect my hbaic which is due beginning of September. I have registered with a new doctor and she won't be back from holidays until then.

Feeling a bit lost in the wilderness....if you are ill, does your bg levels stay high all day or just high first thing like mine? Could be hormone related too?

Sorry about all the questions, but I'm panicking mildly here!

Donna🙂

People are often more insulin resistant in the mornings, so this might go some way towards explaining why your levels are higher then and improve through the day. Other than that I'm afraid I don't have anything in the way of explanation. I hope things improve soon, try not to worry too much (easy to say, I know!). Whilst it may have some impact on your HbA1c, I doubt if it will have a major effect.

Thanks Alan

It's such a shock as my morning readings are on average 6.8-7.2. Think I may have some sort of infection which would explain my morning readings? I am also going through the menopause and suffer badly from night sweats, just wondering if this would affect my numbers?

I wouldn't be surprised - remember that insulin is 'just' another hormone, all part of the endocrine system, and all hormones can play a part in affecting the others. So, if your other hormones are coming into play during the night but then settling down when you are up and about this might be an explanation.

Hi Alan,

I have a theory and so far, the doctors in Norway don't acknowledge this. Before I started on Metformin, I hadn't menstruated for 8 months. A couple of months later they reappeared and the night sweats weren't so bad. Since my Metformin dose has been reduced to just one per day, my periods have stopped again and the night sweats have reappeared! Coincidence🙂?

I often wonder if women who have polycystic ovaries are prescribed Metformin to help their fertility, is Metformin messing about with my system. I feel as if I am going round in a vicious cycle.

What do you think?

Donna 🙂
