well you are very lucky, some however aren't, it was one incident for the poor bloke and he has explained he pulled over when it was safe to do so, there is no need for judgement on another persons situation when you don't know all the facts

Glad you are OK @billyblue - and I suspect it will be a ‘lesson learned’ for future trips.

As has been said, it‘s recommended to be ‘5 to drive’ in the UK, and to take carbs if you are 4.x. I also find that the act of driving itself (certainly distances) acts as much on my BG as a brisk walk, so I would usually eat before setting off, and set a TBR on my pump to be on the safe side.

I've had two immediate deep hypos whilst at the wheel although yes I had tested less than 15 minutes before and my meter said 7.2, it was 5 hours since lunch and my last 'fast acting' jab hence I judged I'd be OK tto drive home. I wasn't though.

Luckily both times just me and the central crash barrier on the M42 just before the end of it (as was originally) at Bromsgrove - but had it been the M5 or M6 - I might well not have still been alive.

Just as Billy said - it can and does happen however well one plans, sometimes.
