Got up at 7 this morning, ate breakfast of porridge & agave nectar about 7.35 and left for uni at 8:10 where we went out for the morning on the minibus back had a small apple and nothing til now at 1pm where i've tested and my blood sugar is 11.... what the heck? minus the apple last week I got down to 3 :\

oh and to add.. last night I had a large jacket potato and salad but nothing else which i'm normally okay levels on! I'm running out of test strips so thats a bit problematic, can I get them without having a repeat prescription or seeing the doc : / ?

Sorry to hear that the BGs are playing up......it must be the diabetes fairy being mischievous

So whoever said it had to make sense? 😉

I've had exactly the same meal, at virtually the same time on consecutive days and got completely different results. Perhaps it's just a LADA thing, or maybe you have an infection brewing, or maybe it was the apple. The change in weather could have an effect as well, it's flippin freezin here. Mind you, this being the Highlands, it usually is.

You can buy your own strips, but why should you if your doctor will prescribe them?

I'd agree with Alison - LADA can be very unpredictable :( Given that you are prone to hypos I would have thought that your doctor should prescribe as many strips as you need in order to stay safe and manage your diabetes well. You certainly don't want to be buying them on your student income!

Couldn't get appointment til friday.... I have one test strip left! Uh oh! Don't seem to be able to find any repeats lying around either. Could be an interesting few days...

It's worth seeing if your GP can issue prescriptions to a chemist by phone or some other system. Most GPs will accept a note stating what you need, if you don't have a repeat presciption form. But basically, you have to put in a request before your supplies get too low. A bit of hassle, but really it is your responsibility.

Normally I do keep up but having just got moved back here (uni) I'm not 100% on top of things yet! And I don't have my repeat prescription , back home i had to go as a temp patient.

You should be able to leave a note at the surgery for a prescription for some strips, or have a word with reception and say it's an emergency - you shouldn't need an appointment just to get a prescription for something like strips 🙂
