Has anyone else from this forum watched this doc/film? Finding it very interesting. Basically claiming that meat, particularly processed meat is more to blame for people getting diabetes than sugar and carbs. They seem to back it up well with studies. They are suggesting that a plant based diet is probably the best way to counter/reverse it. Also saying how bad things like dairy products and most cooked foods are! I've never been one to consider a vegan diet but I'm now considering moving largely towards a mainly vegan based diet after watching that. Eye opener!

I'm not sure about it, because there also studies that meat isn't the main culprit.

I think anyway that following a Mediterranean (or DASH) diet, with less meat eaten and try to eat less industrial processed food, should be really better.
Vegan processed food could be worse because is more sugar and carb-loaded than a mediterranean-style especially if try to mock sausages and cheeses.
 
Well, Simon, if you believe that you'll believe Noddy is a real person. If it were true, it would contradict decades of scientific research. Blaming meat? If I ate a chicken leg, it would have virtually no effect on my BG. A chicken sandwich certainly would. That's carbs. Don't be fooled by "studies" that back up their theory - unless they show you the methodology and controls used, you can be sure they are shaky.

Of course a vegan diet will be better than eating lots of processed food. So will a high protein low carb diet. That's a choice, but not a medical one.
 
I agree with Mikey. This really is a load of codswollop.
 
I try to keep an open mind about these kind of things and of course a chicken sandwich will put your blood sugar levels up while a chicken leg won't. The documentary wasn't talking about increasing blood sugars. I probably wouldn't do it justice trying to explain it from my (poor) memory from watching it but it was saying eating things like meat and saturated fats were clogging up cells or something which meant the sugar wasn't being processed through the body as effectively as normal. I'm assuming you haven't watched it? It's definitely worth a view.
 
In the doc/film they do explain their reasoning and back it up with some studies. They then go on to show how many fast food and dairy companies are actually sponsoring the American diabetes society. I can't really do it justice talking from memory but well worth a view

Not to mention that the vegan foods you''ll find in a supermarket have the same problem wit food "for diabetics". The lesser evil like sugars or animal products are swapped fith more evil ingredients - like statrches or processe soymilk.
 
I saw an MP who has been a Vegan for a long time say on telly yesterday, that although it is easier to get vegan food now, there are some rubbish foods around under the Vegan banner.
 
I'm going to be eating out with my vegan niece this weekend, so I thought I'd best look up some recipes to see if vegan food contained any 'hidden' carb. OMG! I'm glad I did - vegan Mac n cheese with sweet potato instead of cheese, savory dishes laced with maple syrup, etc etc. It all looks very tasty, but a bit challenging carb-count-wise.:confused: 🙄
 
This programme is promoting the old adage 'fat is bad', which has now been challenged through lots of research around the world. Cut the carbs & the fat is fine. Carbs cause inflammation which restricts how fat gets through the body, hence clogged arteries.
