I'm on norvomix 30 and have diarrhoea I need to eat but what should I have when I need to take my insulin

Try some dry toast.

Im not sure how it works with T2 for sick day rules, and it’s a while since I was on a mixed insulin. I’d suggest calling your GP surgery and asking for a phone appointment for advice? Or perhaps call NHS 111?

My thinking would be to keep a close eye on your BGs (checking every few hours or whenever you feel odd). I would expect true illness to be raising your BG as your body fights the illness, but if you are unable to eat the insulin might suddenly make them drop.

I suppose the old advice about keeping well hydrated, and trying to have something small and quite plain might apply - if you are struggling to eat anything then a few swigs of a sugary fizzy drink will keep your levels up until you can eat properly.

Get well soon!

I have the opposite problem, but for instance you could eat fruits high on pectin like green apples or agar agar, or high on tannins like carob, dry psyllum , blackberry, or nuts. These are herbal remedies, but I think it's better to ask the GP

The BRAT diet. Bananas, rice, apple sauce and toast. Works every time. Boring as hell though! Hope you get sorted.

I'd say it depends what's causing the diarrhoea - if you've got a bug and everything is coming out, you should definitely contact whoever oversees your diabetes (your own GP or hospital team - but not 111 as in my experience the random doctors you will get ringing 111 are unlikely to know anything about insulin useage and may give you wrong advice). If you start vomiting you may need to call an ambulance because if you're on insulin and you can't keep anything down you may need to be put on an insulin drip.

But if your stomach has just been upset by something you ate, or a condition you're already managing, like IBS, you'll probaby be fine with dry toast and plain biscuits (eg ryvita). We are all different, but personally I wouldn't risk fruit or nuts if I had diarrhoea, they would make it worse.

If your blood sugar is low you could also have something like black tea with sugar in it. Don't have any dairy.

arrowroot can be very useful, make up with milk or water like old fashioned custard powder, you only want a little. Looks (and possibly tastes?) like wallpaper paste, but very effective.

Imodium instants. I’m an expert on diarrhoea ((Ulerative Colitis). Doesn’t work in cholera, but tremendous in Norovirus because you don’t vomit and poo at the same time.

Thank you every one I'm fine now must have been something that disagreed with me .
