Hi I've been to my doctors this afternoon & been severely told off for taking too many glucor when I have a really high reading saying that I could damage my liver ! & that I'm not supposed to take anymore meds than prescribed , so I'm worried, how do I reduce my blood sugars now ? what on earth can I do ?

No medication then?

Activity and low carbs............

But that's useless information, especially from me..........

When are you high?

:

Hi , nearly always In the evenings when I'm inactive

Are you able to test regularly so you can perhaps work out when you're going high and what may be the cause? If you can understand that you may be able to improve matters without additional meds? What else are you on, can the GP help you work out a better meds regime? And finally, are you taking them when you're supposed to? The doctor was right to give you a row for taking more than you should without consultation but did they not give you advice on what you might do instead?

I don't know if you've tried it already but have you ever kept a food/exercise/meds/BGs diary? I do still, but it was especially valuable in the early days when I was trying to work out what was going on.

Thankyou , yes I can test regularly but I have only been testing when I've been feeling low or high , I will try & keep a diary as you have kindly suggested & test three times a day ? i'm also on gliclazide & Tahor for cholesterol & am having bloods taken tomorow + a 24hr urine test

Don't wish to upset you further, but just heard on another forum that one of the member's friends has died, from liver failure caused by one of his T2 meds.

What about dietary tweaking? - what's a typical day's menu for you? And BG readings?

I'm trying to work out what you mean. First I made the assumption that "glucor" is a medicine name, so searched for "glucor" on BNF (British National Formulary) website, but nothing showed up. But many drugs do have maximum doses precisely to protect liver and / or kidney function, so you shouldn't take more than prescribed. However, not all medications are excreted through the same organ, so it might be possible to be prescribed other medication types.

If no other oral or injectable medication is suitable, then insulin might be considered. Without looking through all your posts, I'm not aware if you're in UK (which might account for "glucor" name not being in BNF) or have said you're scared of injection etc, so apologies if that's the case, and this what I've typed doesn't apply to you.

I think Glucor is also known as Acarbose. It is prescribed in Europe and USA.
