hello there, I have a One Touch Ultra meter from Lifescan and was wondering what others out there have got and your opinions of them. I'm tempted to buy one that gives you a 14, 30 and/or 90 day average, has anyone got one of these, how much are they?

thanks

I use an Optimum Xceed, have always used Abbots meters and got this as an upgrade about 4 years ago. I like it, because of the foil strips, it's small and have had no problems with Abbott customer service.

I have tried the Accuchek Nano and also the OneTouch Ultra Easy, but went back to my Xceed once I ran out of the free strips.

Just ring up the companies and they should send you out a meter for free, shouldn't have to pay for a meter.

I have the freestyle lite from abbotts as Nikki i have never had any issues with there custumer service line and my meter is reliable , id say ring up your metre manufacturer you should be able to get one for free via them.

I have the Accu-Chek Compact.
It's not very compact but I like the fact that it uses a drum of strips rather than you having to handle individual test strips each time you want to test. Also, the ficker pricker is attached to the same unit.
I do quite a lot of hillwalking and find it useful to be able to test without stopping and having to fiddle with strips. This is also a big plus in cold weather.
Now if they would only make it truly compact, they'd be on to a winner.

Hi

I use the One Touch models and love them. It is only the One Touch easy that doesn't have the 14,30 day averages, all the others do. Which model are you using?

I've used other machines but I personally cannot beat the One Touch and their customer service is great.

Hello,

I've got a OneTouch UltraEASY, OneTouch UltraSMART, Optium Xceed and a Bayer Contour USB (arrived this morning!)

I'm trying to write software to read the meters, hence why I have so many.

So far I've always stuck with the OneTouch meters. The OneTouch UltraSMART is still the meter with the most functions (graphing, averages, BG with pre/post meal marker, insulin, medication, exercise, and carbs) but for ease of carrying I tend to use the UltraEasy.

The Optium Xceed has the advantage of doing Blood Ketone tests (using different srtips)

Not yet tried the Contour USB.

P.S I've only ever bought one meter - I get mine from my diabetic specialist nurse or direct from manufacturer.

I have a one touch ultra, well I have three, one at work, one a home and one in my bag. I have tried others and always come back tot he one touch.

I've got a freestyle lite too - first one I ever tried and being needle phobic I think it's great. You only need the tiniest amount of blood which saves me having to squueze my fingertips really hard.....I haven't had it long so haven't experienced any issues with it yet.

Ahh yes i was meant to ask you last week how you where getting on, pleased you like it .

Freedom Freestyle Lite for me too. It's brill, simple and reliable. I also have a Bayer Contour II, which I hate, it was a real pain to set up, I actually had to read the instruction manual to get it working and IT types NEVER read manuals.😡

I have had the one touch ultra, the ultrasmart, the ultra easy and the Nano in the past but am now using the Contour, Contour Link and my free Contour USB which I think is absolutely brilliant.

However, I am not keen on the Bayer finger pricker and use the Multiclix one instead. I have found all of the companies to have great customer service help lines, especially when I had my blood kits stolen out of the car. Rang them up and got new blood meters within 48 hours and even though I only wanted the multiclix I got a new nano and a spare multiclix.

thanks everyone for your comments. Mine is a One touch ultraeasy but i bought mine from the chemist (cost me ?7) but it was inbetween waiting for my results to see if i was diabetic or not and i couldn't wait so bought one but i will now prob ring a couple of companies and see if i can get some free ones as spares, thanks 🙂

I've got a Bayer Contour. Never had any trouble with it, I like it , but then I'm easily pleased and tbh don't really have anything to compare it with.

You can apply for a free one here if you want to give it a try (and it never hurts to have a spare!) - they give 50 away every month.

I use the onetouch ultra easy. It works well me for me, very straight forward, small and reliable, and of course it's pink!!!!

I've only ever used one touch products though so may not be the best judge!

I use One Touch Ultra Easy and also have the Ultra.. my first meter was a One touch basic I think it was called.. haven't tried any other brands as I have always been happy with the one touch range..

we have Menarini glucomen lx the customer service is very good when i asked for something was here the next day even the mete r i called for another meter on friday and saturday morning was here i was expeting that would be monday ,every time they have been very good

I have an Accu-Chek Compact Plus which I got as an upgrade from my Accu-Chek Compact. I like the pre-coded drums of test strips it uses as you just switch on and test without any messing around having to calibrate.
As Red Pumper says, if it was a bit smaller it would be great, but I suppose you can't have everything.
