just womdered what levels people like to to bed to advoid hypos at night i like to aim for 7-9

I’ve been spoilt over recent years with hybrid loops and predictive low glucose suspend.

Even the ease of access to the ‘missing 8hrs’ of numbers with Libre 1 made a huge difference.

Ideally around 6ish, but I'm way less worried now that I have been for decades.

Are your blood sugars dropping overnight if you’re getting hypos at night? Maybe your insulin needs dropping again rather than raising your pre bed bg?

Round about 7/ 7.3. Last night I was 6.7 but didn’t want to have a snack so left it. Woke with a lovely 5.2 this morning, and a very straight line on the Libre. Cracked it! I’m cured! o_O I could do the same tonight though and it could be totally different, I think it depends on whether you ate early or late, what exercise, if any, you’d done that day, how many carbs you’d had overall, and what colour your PJs are!😉 Joking apart, I was always told no lower than 7 if you’re on insulin.

I was also told no lower than 7.0, @eggyg . I'm usually around 7.5-8. I certainly don’t dare go to bed lower, because my overnight graph is always like a slack washing line, I descend steadily, bottom out in the low 4s around 4am, then rise back up, hopefully to the 5-6s before morning.

5 to 6. I find if i go to bed higher i just crash anyway, its not like its the same line as if i went to bed at a lower level

That is really interesting and suggests to me that your own insulin production is perhaps bringing you down overnight to what would be normal (low 4s perhaps even high 3s) levels if you push your BG up before bed and trigger an insulin response.

I take into consideration a lot of factors regarding my levels when I go to bed including exercise I have done and how much protein I have eaten and what my evening basal insulin dose is and if my levels are going upwards or trending downwards. If I decide to take 0 basal insulin on an evening because I have done plenty of exercise, I might go to bed in the 5s, otherwise it is generally a bit higher but if I am on 8 or above I will jab a correction because I really sleep poorly when my levels are above 8 and I get my best most restful sleep below 5, even if I wake up hypo.(according to Libre 🙄) eat a JB and go back to sleep, usually within a couple of minutes. I prefer to skim along the bottom of range during my sleep for quality of sleep, than be middle or above.

I don’t think there is much value with directly comparing different people’s “comfortable” bed time BG as it depends on many things such as how your diabetes is managed (e.g. HCL “should” adapt BG if your BG is too high or too low), your body’s natural insulin needs/liver dump overnight (some people find it easier to maintain a level BG with a long lasting insulin whereas others may see a night time dip), how comfortable your body is with different BG level (my mind becomes too active when my BG is over 8mmol/l), whether you have been exercising (my BG drops after exercise) or drinking, etc.
