Do you have a food that you love but you can only eat a little of it or have had to abandon it due to it being very spikey?

What is your spikiest food?
 
White bread.

Rice Krispies used to be my daughter’s worst, just plain with a little bit of milk and absolutely no added sugar, and they would immediately launch her blood sugars into orbit! We used to try to do the insulin bolus a bit earlier to minimise the effect, but often forgot or didn’t have time. White bagels were pretty bad too, I seem to remember that they were worse than other bread.
At the other extreme, a bowl of porridge was so slow burn that we had to do at least a 90 minute extended bolus to avoid her going hypo. And occasionally had the same problem with chocolate, specifically Wispa bars for some reason!
She rarely eats breakfast now and I don’t have anything to do with it any more, so the situation is probably different these days!

Are you sure you didn't have something on your fingers, I would have thought the effect of jam would have been long gone in 2 hours.
 
Rice sadly - I've stopped eating it altogether.

With Type 1, my concern is not food with instant high spikes - these foods make perfect hypo treatment.
For me, things like bread and rice I just need to take my insulin earlier to minimise the spikes.
The challenge for those of us who use insulin to manage our diabetes is food that affect our BG for longer than the "activity spikes" in fast acting insulin.
This is usually higher carb, higher fat foods such as pizza and curry.
 
Croissants are the only food I avoid because of how spiky they are.
 
Flaky pastry - especially when I've chosen sensibly and had a spinach and feta Börek from the Turkish bakery. 10 units fast-acting and still up to 13.
 
Bagels - a turbo-charged rocket into the BG stratosphere!
 
Milk chocolate - Easter is approaching. All those lovely, yummy chocolate eggs winking at me. Sigh
 
Porridge
I liked it sooo much but even with pre-bolusing I get a spike.
I have given up (most of the time) but I know I will be tempted when away on a course at the end of the month where they serve delicious porridge. I will succumb at least one one morning and then go for a very brisk walk!
 
Potatoes are the worst culprit for me, especially in chip/fries format.
