Hi @Ibby

From what I can see in the photo they are doing a GaD Antibody test. This will check whether he has the antibodies in him whose ‘job’is to destroy the beta cells in the pancreas. These are the ones that would be making insulin. The presence of these antibodies would show that he has T1 Diabetes.

I am a little uncertain what your questions is. Is your OH already on insulin, and are you asking whether he should still take his insulin. His insulin will have no impact on this test. They will be looking for the antibodies.

I do no know what the other tests are.

I hope that makes sense

Those look like the Type 1 antibodies tests - GAD65, IA2, etc. If you’re asking whether taking insulin will affect the result, the answer is No, I believe, as they’re testing for antibodies not insulin.

Yes he’s on insulin was Just wondering if he needed to have his test before his insulin but you’ve answered my question.this was the blood form the diabetes specialist nurse sent

Thankyou I was just checking

Usually for anything at all, providing whoever is ordering the tests knows a person uses insulin, they would make it very clear when giving you the test form if you should NOT inject insulin prior to having the test - or anything else different you might need to do. (eg certain tests (not these ones) they do not wish you to eat for so many hours before having the blood taken for the test.)

Yes, those are GAD and IA2 antibody tests for T1. You would take insulin as normal for the test

@DaveB the diabetic specialist nurse thinks my hubby has been misdiagnosed he developed what they said was type 2 about 8 year ago after a kidney transplant and was on tablets for a short while before going on to novo mix 30 insulin . His diabetes has been up and down for a long while and at the moment carnt get his blood sugars down to a normal level . Together are now trying novo rapid at lunch time as well as his novo mix breakfast and tea time to see if that helps . My hubby has never been over weight he weighs 53.6kg now in all his clothes and shoes and is struggling to put some weight on he is 161cm tall .if he is type 1 they want to put in something in his arm you use your phone to do something with .

That will most likely be a Freestyle Libre @Ibby - which is a form of continuous glucose sensor which provides lots of information about what happens to his levels in between the fingerprick readings.
