Easy guides for beginners sort on video. Nothing too complicated!!
Short videos are best please. Any recommendations would be gratefully received.
 
Keto is dead simple, reduce the carbohydrate in your diet. Keto is shorthand for being in ketosis, so remove the sugary starchy foods and eat meat, fish, cheese, yoghurt, eggs and nuts, add in low carb veges for colour taste and crunch and you are about done really. Abandon all thoughts of having to eat low fat foods to stay healthy - it was never true.
 
Hello TRACTORLADY ; sorry for the delay in replying, I've been cleaning my freezer and kitchen, and it took longer than expected

KETO is short for KETOGENIC

You don't need to know how the word was originated or derived, but just to know that a ketogenic or keto diet is one that is very low in carbohydrates, so it is also known as a low carb diet

The idea is that if you are consuming hardly any carbohydrates your body has to use up its existing stores of carbohydrates and also has less carbohydrate floating around in the body
And as the carbs are used up, so the body then uses its fat
Thus a keto diet is beneficial for anyone trying to lose weight, and for diabetics, or both

Instead of carbs people eat more fat & protein, plus veg - but be sensible about it
Obviously if you are consuming huge great bucketfuls of fat then you will gain weight anyway
And these should be the 'good' fats, like oily fish, avocados, and olive oil

You will notice that a keto diet is a change from earlier advice of eating bulky, starchy carbohydrates and reducing fat
With a keto diet you needn't be afraid of fat!

A keto diet is very popular at the moment, so there are lots of videos about it on YouTube, and also books - just Search Amazon!
There are so many that I haven't watched them all, but here is one explanation that is fairly straightforward -

'A keto diet for beginners' by Diet doctor

This channel adds a bit of fun and liveliness to the subject - 'Headbangers Kitchen'

Other than that it's a question of Searching YT for videos on keto diet, and keto diet for beginners, and watching a few

Just had a look at the Headbangers, recipes look easy and really tasty.

My husband is looking at Keto for weight loss. Were I am low carb but don't need to lose any weight, and actually I like a few carbs. My team suggested I go no/low carbs for a week or so to see what was going on and I think my husband noticed how well I was, and and I have lost a few pounds from keeping it up most of the time.
He probably needs to lose a stone or two. As this makes shopping and cooking easier I am not going to complain.

I tried a keto diet for a couple of weeks but didn't like it much, and neither did I lose any weight
So since 3rd August I've been doing a very low carb/cal diet, based on Dr Roy Taylor's book 'Life Without Diabetes' and that has been more successful
I was 89.3kg on 03/08/20 and this morning, 16/09/20 I was 85,8kg; so maybe not very dramatic but it has been steady, and I will carry on with it

I follow a diet scheme with a light veg meal in the evening
Have a look at the Weight Loss section for a fuller account, both by myself and ColinUK
