After reading another unrelated article, I came across the WHO definition of health.

"Health is not merely the absence of disease but the presence of complete social, psychological and physical wellbeing".

Happy the man who can claim good health, in that case! 😱 🙂

then i think i am healthy i am very happy and very fullfilled in my life and i think i have all 3 even with graham being diabetic because is a very good child

I remember reading that WHO definition around the time I started nursing in 1985, and still believe it today. Perhaps because I'm a woman, not a man, like your statement, Northerner?!? Why not say person?!?

I do believe that even with type 1 diabetes, I can still have "social, psychological and physical wellbeing" - admittedly not complete in all aspects at all times, but striving for happiness, fitness and absence of complications is a good status for me. A partner, cat, ducks etc all help, and will be better once my knee injury is operated on and I can run again - it's been 4.5 months now.

My own interpretation of health is just your general wellbeing, you can still have good health even with a condition like diabetes.

Diabetes on its own shouldn't make a person unhealthy, by any definition. It's how one adapts to any condition and manages it so that it doesnt impact on the social, psych and physical aspects of one's wellbeing.

It is dynamic though, so may fluctuate over time, just as we catch colds and damage joints, we can get depressed or have complications.🙂
