Hi I’m looking for some advice. Last week my HbA1c was 5.9%, down from 7.5% in July 2024. I think the change has been helped by weight loss, increased exercise and reducing carbs.

I’m currently on Metformin and Rybelsus. I have a GP appointment this week - what should I expect?

Thanks

I think you should expect some congratulations on getting your HbA1c down to below "at risk" from an above T2 diagnosis level! You might even get into a discussion about whether it there might be merit in reducing your need for medication if you can maintain the weight loss and reduced carb diet.

Should be a good appointment.... let us know if it turns out that way.

That's a great result. Don't forget you are part of the conversation and have a say in what happens next.

What would you like to happen? Stay as you are, reduce the meds a bit, look at stopping the meds completely and see how you get on?

Oftentimes without some steer from the patient you get set on a course you are not necessarily happy with so it's worth thinking about your desired outcomes from the meeting and discussing how viable the GP thinks they are.

I’d expect that you don’t just go to an appointment waiting to see what the GP says but that you think about what you want to happen (reduce medication?, more lifestyle changes?, keep things the same? etc) and you go and inform the GP of your plan for his review

Thanks Lucy, I followed advice and told GP my aim is diabetes remission and to reduce medication. She congratulated me on my progress and has taken me off semaglutide, they will test again in 3-6 months and if still ok can reduce Metformin.
Well done, taking ownership of what you want to happen sounds good

Sounds very positive @ChrisThis

Congratulations on your progress so far!

Let us know how things go as you transition off Semaglutide 🙂

Well done @ChrisThis
Great that your GP was encouraging and positive about your plan.
