Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi All, I am type 1 and a newbie here and have been asked the above question by a grade 12 biology student.

Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum Warren. It would be no problem for a person with type 1 diabetes on basal bolus / MDI regime to eat no carbohydrates for 24 hours, as long as they balanced their insulin intake - in particular reducing or completely omitting short acting insulin. However, personally, I'd find it a boring day if I ate absolutely no carbohydrate for 24 hours.

What would happen eventually, is that the body would start processing any protein and eventually any fat that you ate, into glucose. The body does this at a slower rate, though, so for me the difficult part would be matching my insulin to the rate at which my body was producing glucose.
