Normally I go on self catering holidays, but this week I’m on a budget hotel holiday. I don’t low carb but I do like to eat some proper food without eating out too much to help the budget, so I imagine my food will be mostly coming from the nearby Sainsbury’s and Aldi. The only other place in walking distance is a McDonalds and don’t really fancy their food for a week. I should maybe have planned this aspect of the holiday in advance, as no idea what to get other than some fruit for breakfast, maybe a salad or sandwich for tea as easy to carb count, but depending what they have as I forgot to pack any cutlery!

Hi @Lucyr, I stayed in a Travelodge for a few nights in July and had to rely on salads from Sainsburys and Tesco. Luckily the salads come with a plastic fork so I wasn't reduced to eating with my fingers! I also got some cold seasoned chicken and cole slaw just to perk it up a bit. Nuts are a good bet for breakfast, I sometimes have those even when I'm at home.
Is there any fast food that delivers? I know pizza is scarcely low carb but as a special treat? Hope you enjoy your holiday whatever you manage to forage x

When not in a pandemic, I travel and stay in hotels once or twice a month. Although my budget is not tight when travelling for business, I am not a fan of eating in restaurants alone so often get my meals from supermarkets where I buy things like salads and nuts and sushi and yoghurt for breakfast. I get a kick out of wondering around supermarkets in other countries. Sweden and Finland have lovely smoked salmon. When I was last in America, I found a huge Korean supermarket with some amazing food like kimchi and prepared fish and fruit I didn’t recognise. I have taken to carrying reusable travel cutlery in my overnight bag along with my spare toothbrush and earplugs.

Tonight for tea I had a cheese salad from aldi and a mango grape fruit pot, but they don’t come with plastic cutlery any more and I forgot to bring any, so had to eat it with the teaspoon in the room

There probably is fast food that delivers, and if there was one nearby then a chicken kebab would be my go to (chicken, salad, pitta bread always feels pretty good meal for a takeaway!). Usual issue with takeaway is that staying alone it’s hard to meet the minimum order, I’ll have to get one before I go back to the hotel one night though
