Was just reading Alan's thread about nearly injecting wrong insulin thinking I've never done that.....famous last words just realised that I've injected my night time dose of levemir instead of morning amount ie 28 units instead of 12😱 and I'm going on a long journey from 11am (I'm not driving) with a nice meal this evening What should I do to combat the high doses of levemir (not helped by me feeling nauseous at the moment because of the gastroparesis)

PS I feel really stupid for having done this

Hi AJ - first don't feel stupid Alan nearly did it, I've nearly done it (a couple of days back - realised I was priming the wrong pen) and many have posted on doing the same.

The only advice I can give you is to test more and think about reducing your bolus (if you haven't already injected). You could try upping your carb intake a little but it still comes back to testing more. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Ive done this before , and for me it was just a case of lots of bs testing ,at least you are a passenger in car that solves that problem 🙂 Hope everything will settle , but honestly dont feel silly im sure you'll find that lots of people on here have done it .

I've just read this after writing in my thread about how I thought it would be worse to do it the other way around! 😱 I think that I would try and keep topped up with jelly babies or coke, having a little each hour and regular testing - although in your case you have the Dexcom to hopefully warn you if you drop low. Hope you can keep on top of it. I suppose the good thing is that it is levemir as well, so it should be out of your system sooner than lantus would be. Take care 🙂

It's SO easily done AJ, don't beat yourself up about it.

I have no experience of how Levemir works in this situation, but all I can say is that it won't necessarily be a case of knocking the same number of units off your boluses over the expected activity period of the Lev dose.

In your shoes I'd make sure I had lots of hypo treatments with me and lots of test strips. I reckon you will need to reduce your boluses over the next 12 hours or so and may also need to 'graze' a bit in between meals. Low GI grazing would be good, but if you still feel nauseous, tiny sips of lemonade or something might do the trick.

The CGM should come in really handy 🙂

I did exactly the same thing a while back so don't feel silly! I've even had an ambulance out once when I used my quick acting and injected a massive amount instead of my using my levemir!! When I did the same as you, strangely I didn't notice any difference during the day probably because I was worrying about it. Check regularly and don't go anywhere without hypo treatment, your meter or food with carbs in. When it comes to your night time dose you may need to think about taking less. I was told that, because I took my night time dose of 32 in the morning I should take my morning dose of 12 in the evening so that I had the same total amount of insulin in one day and then carry on as normal the next day. I ended up high the following morning (15) but soon recovered. You might want to ask your DSN but do what you think is best. My GP suggested that I don't take any more insulin in the evening but I didn't like the sound of that!
