What are Podiatry departments supposed to offer to diabetics?

I'm a type two diabetic over 80 who managed to get admitted to our local Podiatry clinic. The first person that looked after me clipped my nails and did various test on my feet to check for pulse etc but since then the other staff just clip my nails. Is this normal?

I was only diagnosed last September and got the impression that my feet would only be checked for pulse, sensation etc, once a year at my annual review

I wouldn’t worry too much Brian. They’re trained to spot abnormalies anyway. As KM says, the full works is usually annual.

Usually the full works is yearly, however each time you have your nails clipped they are visually checking your feet. It’s best to mention anything your worried about at these regular visits .

2 years ago, my GP started sending me an appointment for an annual check. The first one was quite thorough.

Last year, it was only a brief check and, this year, I've heard nothing.

My daughter, who is actually a Podiatrist, was shocked at last year's check. " She should have done this. She should have done that. How on earth did it only take 10 minutes" etc.

The hospital does a check at my annual review.

I did go for some hospital treatments last year and, when I was discharged, got given a card with a telephone number to call if ever I needed an appointment.

I just let my daughter check/treat me now. The system does seem a bit haphazard so it's easier to let her do it - although she still charges full price, and expects a tip!
