Last Week I was in a position where I was stuck to find a place to wash my hands before a test. So had a pack of Facial wipes which the packet said free from perfume alcohol and colours, And was thinking are they suitable or would they affect the test thanks.

Baby wipes are cheaper, I usually have a pack somewhere about my person - and my baby is 28!

Thanks will have a look I didn't think about baby wipes at the time.

most supermarkets do an own brand that is fragrance free baby wipes, and if there is a multi pack it owkrs out even cheaper. I always keep a pack handy as they are usefull for all kinds of things and have been wonderful during the recent hot spell just to freshen up with at work.

The misses buys fragrance free baby toilet wipes from asda, 3 for ?2.50
The good thing is they are a lot smaller than baby wipes so ideal for what you need them for and cheap 🙂

I think any wipes are ok so long as you let your finger dry before testing.

Thanks all I will pick up some when I go out Sounds just the job.

I always have some in my kit. I usually raid the pound shop for unscented baby wipes, or keep a look out for supermarket specials.

I keep forgetting poundland for some reason have not looked in there ages

I have some accu chek wipes from boots (box of 10 for less than ?2) I got them due to hearing good things & they are very good.

I do tho keep hand sanitizer on me which doesn't seem to affect tests (just if you want something easier to carry than baby wipes)

Errr, why do you need to wash, unless you are doing something dirty, like gardening etc?

I was told to always wash my hands before testing. Even if you haven't done anything your body's natural oils could affect the test, or so they said.

I like the individual sachets of wipes a lot easier to carry and use.

Provided I haven't been handling food which may have adhered to my fingers and might skew the test I don't bother washing hands if I am out and about with no access to washing facilites. Been testing 7 times a day for over 10 years now with no problems. I'd be more worried that something left on my fingers from the wipes would affect the test.

Hi Trophywench,

I agree!😛We were also told that constant use can actually toughen the skin over time making it more difficult to prick the skin. If Alex had to clean his fingers 10 times a day he would get really frustrated! Obviously if he has been eating sweets he would wash his hands but generally he doesnt bother.🙂Bev

I think that the advice to wash is more about the warm water increasing the circulation so that the blood flows more freely, rather than cleanliness and any worry about infection from the finger prick. Of course you still have to think about foodstuffs contaminating the fingers and skewing the results. I find hair products do similar.
