I'm having a few problems trying to stabilise my weight. I've pretty much hit my target weight but I'm still dropping - my BMI is now 24. I'm happy for it to go to 23 or 22 but I would like to approach it (more) slowly.

I've also managed to work at getting my BG's to the point where a pre-meal will generally be in the ~5's (my fasting levels occasionally into the 6's). I've even managed to hit 4.8 a couple of times! Yay.

But I'm having problems now lifting up my calorie intake without lifting up my BG's. My current Calories are ~1600 whereas I think I need to be hitting 2000. The most obvious way is to add more nuts, but I find if I add too many nuts I start to have tummy problems. It also starts to get a tad expensive.

The cheapest option is to add more carbs into my diet, but that has problems with lifting my post-prandials up. I found that just low GI didn't help, I had to carb limit as well.

Or should I be thinking about different medication? Metformin does very little for post-prandials.

Are there any other type 2's not on insulin in a similar situation, if so, what did you do?

Eating something fatty would raise your calories with the smallest amount (9 cals per gram) and wouldn't raise your levels - just need to make sure it's the right kind of fat. Cheese? My mind's gone blank!
