Hello.
This is my first post on this forum and expect that maybe these questions have already been answered elsewhere.
I was diagnosed with type 2 about 18 months ago which was a big surprise.
I was not at all overweight but fairly rapidly thereafter went from circa 11 st to 9 st 9 lds which was and continues to be a worry!
The chosen course of action when diagnosed was control via diatery change rather than medication which I am ok with but find `getting the diet right` a constant problem.I have cut out cakes, biscuits chocolate etc etc , processed food my numbers are at 53 as of last weeks blood test results so the conventional wisdom is I am ok .
This last 2 weeks I have noticed purple blotches appearing on my arms - they appear then seem to begin to fade eventually- any clues please as to what these are and how they are triggered?
Thank you

Welcome to the forum
The weight loss may be because you have cut out the high carb foods which is needed for reducing blood glucose but you also need to replace those with enough protein and healthy fats to help prevent weight loss once you reach a weight that is normal for your height and age. Continued weight loss can be a red flag for either Type 1 or LADA but that is usually when diet does not work in reducing blood glucose.
Can I ask if you are taking blood thinners as that can cause red/purple patches from even slight knocks as people bruise more easily as they do when they get older.
It would be wise to get checked out by your GP and also ask for your vitamin B12 to be checked.
There is some more recent guidance that the HbA1C level should be more lenient for more mature folk.

Thank you for the speedy and helpful response Leadinglights!
I am not taking blood thinners my only medications are a statin and 2 bp pills.
Your advice on the GP seems sound thank you.

After I was diagnosed in September 2021 I went low carb/calorie and lost weight quickly - I did briefly get a weird purple patch under one arm but it went away. It hasn't happened since.
