I used to take 500mg Metformin twice a day. I started testing and follwing a low-carb diet and made a huge difference to my weight and blood results. My GP said in December that at my next review he'd halve the medication with a view to stopping it completely. I was too impatient to wait the full 6 months and rang the surgery about 6 weeks ago. I spoke to my GP who gave the go ahead to halve the dose now as my self-test results are lower than they were in December. So I did. No increase in BG levels - at least not that I can see from my test results. Small increases after meals and a fast recovery to pre-meal levels.
But I've stopped losing weight. At first it slowed to 1lb a week which I was happy with but in the last month I've lost nothing. My food and exercise levels are the same.
Could this be connected to the drop in Metformin? Much as I don't want to take any medication long-term if I can avoid it, I'd be happy to go back to the old dose of Metformin if it helps me get to a tolerable BMI.
Has anyone had a similar experience or been able to kick-start a stalled weight loss in any other way?
Love from Carmina the plump and cuddly, no longer vastly huge and hippo-esque.
